Twitter have recently launched a new App called Periscope, It allows you to livestream and to also watch livestreams from your mobile phone. The idea behind Periscope is to allow everyone to discover the world through other people’s eyes.
What if you could see through the eyes of a protestor in a different country, or watch a sunset from a hot air balloon in Africa? This may all sound lovely and yes, I have seen some lovely sights around the globe but for me it’s the business use of this technology that is the most appealing and interesting to me. We now all have a broadcast TV station in our pockets and all we need is Wi-Fi or 4g connection and we are broadcasting to a global audience.
Since its launch, celebrities, brands, businesses sports clubs, and both big and small businesses have started to livestream. The opportunity for business is incredible. The opportunity allows their customers to get closer to them, to get live feedback on ideas, new services and products, to have a live audience commenting & interacting on their shows.
But there is also a massive opportunity for people to create new businesses and new revenue streams by livestreaming things they are passionate about. There is now a huge opportunity to livestream behind the scenes from your business and to stream your home business where you are baking or making & repairing things. Also, if you are a coach, an expert on a topic or make clothes and/or jewellery, there is a great big world out there that you can now access.
A massively overlooked part of the Periscope App Is that it is owned by Twitter. This alone is one of the main reasons to get the App. When broadcasting a show the title of your show can be auto tweeted out to all of your followers and with some careful targeting, it can potentially reach a world audience who can also tune into your show. You can be at home or in your office and literally have a worldwide targeted audience watching you.
To use Periscope you will need to download the App from Periscope.tv and have a Twitter account.
