This afternoon Xero hosted a launch event for the New Zealand Government’s Information and Communications Technology sector report 2015 at our Wellington office. We welcomed Hon Steven Joyce, Hon Amy Adams and industry guests to the official launch of the report, which provides a baseline as to the state of the ICT industry in New Zealand.
There are some good stats in the report around growth in the sector over the past few years. For example, total exports of IT services grew to $930 million in 2014 (up from $665 million in 2012). Software exports increased significantly from $166 million in 2012 to $300 million in 2014. There are now more than 10 listed tech companies and the market capitalisation of these companies is now around 10 percent of the total value of the stock exchange.
Minister Joyce outlined aspirational actions to take the ICT industry to the next step. He confirmed that the government will continue to work alongside industry players.
It’s great to see Xero being so prominent in the report – with our very own case study! It focuses on using our technology platform to build an ecosystem with global reach.
During a tour of Xero’s Wellington HQ (and a hit of table tennis!), the Ministers were then given an insight into what a ShipIT day at Xero looks like.
