The number of self-employed people barely increased in the past three months, while other forms of employment showed strong growth.
The amount of freelancers recorded a marginal 0.1% increase to 4.5m in the three months to March compared to the previous quarter, while the number fell slightly year-on-year, according to figures from the Office for National Statistics.
Meanwhile, overall employment rose by 1.8%.
Lorence Nye, economic policy advisor at the Association of Independent Professionals and the Self Employed (IPSE), said: “Self-employment numbers have consolidated after huge increases in previous years. There are now 4.52 million individuals working independently, over one-in-seven workers.
