Tories pledge one-third of government spending with small firms

The Conservatives have announced plans to increase government spending with small businesses, strengthen the Prompt Payment Code and allow councils to keep a greater share of business rates .


The party’s general election manifesto , which was launched on Tuesday, says: “We will raise the target for SMEs’ share of central government procurement to one-third, strengthen the Prompt Payment Code [a voluntary code covering best practice for paying suppliers] and ensure that all major government suppliers sign up.”
